The idea of a 3rd candidate has not been this significant in Sri Lanka’s election history landscape. In the case of the 3rd candidate disassociating himself from the major political parties, he would receive a protest vote that is being cast on discontent over major party politics. The amount of such votes may very well surpass 500,000, leaving major candidates being unable to secure 50 +1 vote.
